Football has been played in Llanfairfechan since 1887. This is the story of the club that grew out of it — the championships, the cup runs, and the people who kept it going.
Llanfairfechan Town has represented the town across countless North Wales competitions, through several notable eras of success and the quieter seasons in between. Today the club still plays at The Recreation Ground, running senior football, junior development and a route into the game for the next generation of local players.
Organised football in Llanfairfechan is documented as far back as 1887 — a proud footballing history stretching back well over a century. From those first fixtures, the town's side went on to represent Llanfairfechan across numerous North Wales competitions.
The town has a fascinating connection to one of Wales' most famous political figures. In 1927, former Prime Minister David Lloyd George is recorded as having performed a ceremonial kick-off at a football match in Llanfairfechan.
One of the club's strongest eras came during the late 1920s and 1930s, and it opened with a cup. Llanfairfechan won the North Wales Coast FA Intermediate Cup in 1927–28 — the first entry in a run of honours that would last a decade.
A cup was followed by a title. The club were crowned Welsh National League (North) Division Two West champions in 1928–29, confirming Llanfairfechan as one of the coast's form sides.
In 1930–31 the club achieved one of the greatest accomplishments in its history by reaching the final of the Welsh Amateur Cup — the competition that later developed into today's FAW Trophy. Llanfairfechan faced Aberystwyth Town in the final at Machynlleth, placing the club among the leading amateur sides in Wales at the time.
The club finished runners-up in the North Wales Coast League in 1933–34, before going one better as North Wales Coast League Champions in 1934–35. A further final followed in 1935–36 in the North Wales Coast Intermediate Cup.
Llanfairfechan subsequently competed in the Welsh League North, alongside some of the best-known clubs in North Wales.

Success returned in a single outstanding season. Llanfairfechan Town won the Vale of Conwy Football League Championship and the North Wales Coast FA Junior Challenge Cup in 1988–89 — the club's only recorded double.
A new century brought another title, as the club were again crowned Vale of Conwy League Champions in 2001–02.
In 2015–16 Llanfairfechan won the Vale of Clwyd and Conwy Division One Championship alongside the R.E.M. Jones Cup — a second double in the club's modern history.
The club added the Presidents Cup in 2017–18, and has consistently competed within the North Wales football pyramid since.
Llanfairfechan Town FC continues to play at The Recreation Ground, proudly representing the town while building for the future through senior football, junior development and opportunities for the next generation of local players.
